Genetics and weight loss

Genetic makeup influence the body’s tendency to consume or store too much energy or burn too little, and a child’s body fatness is often related to that of the parents. For a person who has one obese parent, the chance of becoming obese is 60%, if both parents are obese the probability rises to as high as 90% . Studies of the twins bear this out : identical twins are twice as likely as fraternal twins to weigh the same when reared apart in similar households.
